Erin Liechty Modern Art

My designs and techniques are greatly influenced by my interest in modern industrial architecture and construction. I layer paint, gesso, oil pastel, metal leaf, photocopy transfers and golden mediums to create depth, balance and composition. I rarely use brushes and mostly rely on large drywall knives to apply paint to canvas and panels. I love exploring the way tissue, papers and material combinations work together to render different levels of sheen and transparency. I make large stencils, use a gigantic compass, lots of painters tape, text and imagery to create shapes, lines and meaning, marrying my passions for construction and architecture on canvas.

I am a 30-year-old artist and stay at home mom. I am a native Oregonian who graduated from the University of Portland in 2000. My son is an active toddler, so I spend my time alternately chasing after him and working in my art studio. I participate in workshops from the Oregon College of Art and Craft whenever I can and enjoy meeting with the enviromom's - a local group of parents interested in making the world a better place for our children and teaching them about sustainability and being good world citizens.
